Local Government Actions to Prevent Childhood Obesity

Obesity is one of the most serious and costly health challenges facing the nation. Local officials play a crucial role in the effort to reduce childhood obesity rates by shaping environments that make it either easy or hard for children to eat healthy and be physically active. This report, from The National Academies, offers community-level strategies that officials can use to help cut these rates.

These series of briefings were for members of Congress and congressional staff only. The report was publicly released on September 1, 2009, and can be found, in its entirety, on the Web site of the National Academies Press.
